Company make-up
Teams are generally split by age range and level however, no two years looks the same as teams are assigned with tremendous thought to make sure each dancers is appropriately challenged. A dancer may move up or remain on their team at the discretion of the Director and intensive faculty.
Preteam and Select groups start with less requirements to slowly introduce to competitions. As they grow together, the goal is that they will increase hours together and form a new company. Select groups may be focused on Hip Hop or Jazz and are formed based on the unique makeup of ages, skill levels, and commitment capabilities that presents each year.
VERY generally, these are the 2025-2026 intensive programs:
Preteam (2nd+3rd graders)
Mini Company (4th+5th graders)
Petite company (Middle Schoolers)
Select Company (there can be sub groups that compete just in Jazz, Hip Hop, etc)
Acro Team (Middle and High Schoolers)
Junior Company (Middle Schoolers)
Intermediate Company (Middle Schoolers)
Teen Company (High Schoolers)
Senior Company (High schoolers)
Elite Company (High schoolers)

How to get on a company
TDA's Intensive Program is invitation-only. Dancers joining us from outside TDA are welcome to set up private auditions however dancers who wish to move into the program from within TDA are encouraged (with their parents) to express their interest in writing to Director, Erica Sperberg ([email protected]).
Candidates are observed in class throughout the year and after recital in June, intensive faculty meet to discuss readiness of each student based on technique development, attendance, ability to take feedback, retention of choreography, performance quality, maturity, and overall work ethic.
While we know this delays your family's schedule planning, we intentionally wait until after recital to send invitations for the intensive program. This allows us to see dancers perform on stage, but it also allows dancers to end the season focused on growth, teamwork, and finishing the year strong without worrying about placement for the following season.
If you have a child who wants to be on company, please set the expectation that this takes hard work and commitment! Some dancers have no intention of being on company but display incredible growth and get selected unexpectedly, while others work hard in the recreational program for years before they are selected for company. Each dancer is a unique case and we are extremely sensitive and thoughtful about our selection process with the aim of including as many deserving dancers as possible while maintaining the integrity of the competitive standards.
For those who want to be on team but are still working at it, that tenacity is exactly what will make them a strong dancer (and person.) Parents and students must trust that the qualification parameters are in place to ensure that every child is set up for optimal success in the intensive program.
